Probiotics are naturally found in our bodies, and they are considered good bacteria that bring benefits to the host, especially to the digestive system balancing the intestinal microflora. Their role is to help our body absorb nutrients and fight infection, producing vitamin B12 and K2, creating enzymes that destroy harmful bacteria.

Antibiotics kill good bacteria, sugar, tap water, emotional stress, medication, and this is when we have administrated probiotics to restore the natural balance in our bodies. Probiotics are found in fermented foods with active live cultures like yogurt, in capsules, liquids, or chewable, and the most common probiotics are lactobacillus and bifidobacterium.[1]

Lactobacillus is the most common of the two, and it can be ingested from dairy products, especially in yogurt. It can help people who can’t digest lactose in diarrhea cases, especially the ones caused by antibiotic use. Bifidobacterium is administrated in the case of irritable bowel syndrome, and it is also found in some dairy products.

The health benefits of probiotics are numerous and include: improving digestive function, especially in cases of children with infectious diarrhea and increases the ability to assimilate nutrients from food, Chron’s disease, and irritable bowel syndrome; urinary tract infections can be prevented and even treated with probiotics; avoid and also manage eczema in children; maintaining vaginal health especially in the use of antibiotics probiotics they restore the balance of the microflora; oral health and preventing allergies and colds.[2]

Other more uncommon benefits from using probiotics include improving brain function, which was proven in different studies, reduces cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It can also have sound effects in colds, improve the immune system, treat kidney stones, prevent cavities, remedy bad breath, prevent yeast infections, vaginitis, and candidiasis, fight cancer or even lose weight.[3]

Probiotics have numerous health benefits that have been proven in studies. The most well-known and most important effects are the ones that regard the gastrointestinal tract, immune system, role in fighting infections, and prevention of allergies. Because of all these benefits, you might think people would have them in mind, choose foods that contain probiotics or ingest supplements that contain probiotics, but in fact, this does not happen. Probiotics could straightforwardly change people’s lives, but most people don’t know anything about them. Only eating certain foods will do miracles for them and their health, which is why we should be informed about what are and what benefits they bring.
